A New Chapter – grade one!
Well, the day we’ve been waiting for has arrived, Sept 2, the start of grade 1. Jordan has been very excited to go and reminds us hourly how old he is and when he will be 7. Another step for me in letting go… I admit I got a lump in my throat. He did very well the first day (I think!) all he could tell me was that he listened to his teacher. I have had no chance to meet with his new aide yet so I’m really not sure how well versed she is on all things Jordan. Guess we’ll wait and see. I have a feeling this year will be less hands on than previous, as well it should be as he moves forward. So far I am happy to have him come home for lunch, even though it means more back and forth time for me. I have to pay for monthly supervision if he stays and frankly, it seemed really chaotic last year and I don’t feel comfortable throwing him into the fray. Besides, at home he can still have his favourite peanut butter sandwich, specifically open-faced!
This past week has been a time of transition, saying goodbye to our final full-time aide, Melinda, who has been working steadily with Jordan every morning for the last year. We will surely miss her, as she’s become as family. In fact, it has been difficult to say goodbye to all these dear people who have invested directly into our lives, as one after another they have spent a good deal of time in our home. In another sense I am glad to be closing this chapter of in-home programming, its been four long years of people cycling through our home, breaking down life lessons into manageable pieces for Jordan to learn. I am so grateful to the Lord for providing LEAD Foundation and all their expertise to help us, I have learned MUCH! And praise be to Him for Jordan’s wonderful learning ability and all the prayers lifted on his behalf, he has come so far, and really fast, even though there have been times when we wonder when and if we’ll ever get through a phase. The fact that he is attending regular public school with his peers, is in my mind, a miracle.
